Happy Birthday Gramps

140 years ago today, Alice Wheatcroft and John ** were the proud parents of my beloved Gramps, George Henry ... there were quite a few of his siblings so far i have found, Annie, Mabel, Edith, William, Samuel and my gramps Alice was Peter Wheatcroft's daughter from South Wingfield and it seems his father Samuel was a brother of German and Nathaniel....more later..

Nottingham super funfair is being held this week (same as every week for the last 700-something years) it's called the Goose Fair, is held on the Forest Recreation ground (no not the football ground) and is nothing to do with Geese anymore...but lots to do with FUN..

I've alwayd known that my granpa's mum was a Wheatcroft...imagine my surprise when i vistrd Wheatcroft Wharf at Cromford and then lookrd the family up on Ancestry...My Great grandma was Nathaniel and German Wheatcroft's brother Samuel's grand daughter....

I found lots of info about the flyboats, and how you could travel to almost anywhere from the Wharf in Cromford, it must have been the M1 of its day..
